Pinball Tournaments & League Play
The Getaway Pinball Arcade hosts regular pinball tournaments and league play nights for players of every skill level. Whether you're chasing your first high score or competing for a trophy, our events are designed to be welcoming, competitive, and a whole lot of fun.
Tournament Types We Run
Classic Match Play
Players are grouped and compete head-to-head on assigned machines. Points are awarded based on finishing position, and the highest total wins.
Knockout
Win your group and advance. Lose, and you're out. Fast-paced and dramatic.
Flipper Frenzy
A rapid-fire format where players rotate machines and opponents every few balls. Great for large groups.
PAPA Style
Play a bank of machines and earn points based on your scores relative to the field. Favors consistent, high-level play.
Group Match Play
Similar to Match Play but with larger groups and balanced matchups across the event.
Swiss Rounds
Players face opponents with similar records each round, ensuring fair and competitive matches throughout.
Pinball Tournament Etiquette
Do
- Wait your turn and respect the player order.
- Use controlled nudges — aggressive shaking or lifting the machine may trigger a tilt.
- Call for an official if a ball gets stuck or a machine malfunctions.
- Congratulate opponents and keep the energy positive.
- Ask questions — experienced players love helping newcomers.
Don't
- Don't bang, kick, or slam the machine. Slam tilt will end your game.
- Don't distract another player while they are shooting.
- Don't reach onto the playfield during someone else's turn.
- Don't abuse extra balls or replay credits outside the tournament rules.
Play Styles
Defensive players focus on ball control, safe returns to the flippers, and minimizing risk. Aggressive players go for high-value shots, multiball starts, and mode stacking. Most champions blend both styles, reading each machine and situation to decide when to attack and when to survive.
League Play
Join a league group at The Getaway and compete weekly with a consistent crew. League nights are social, structured, and a great way to improve fast. Groups can earn shared badges and track standings across the season.
